Smallmouth BassSmallmouth Bass
WARM WATER SPECIES
Length 25 - 50 cm. (10-20 in.)

Smallmouth Bass, also called Black Bass, are found in shoals, rivers, creeks and lakes, whereas the Largemouth prefer warmer waterbodies with shallow cover such as weeds and wood. In lakes with varied habitat, Largemouth territory overlaps with Smallmouth. Smallmouth prefer open rocky lakes and rivers, where you can use light to medium-action 6 to 7 foot spinning rods and 6 to 10-pound-test lines. After spawning in June, the males guard the nest. Bass should not be caught at this time. If males are away from the nest for a short while, the eggs or young may be eaten by predators. Average weight is 2 to 3 lbs (1 to 1.4 kg). This fish is found in Rice Lake, Chemong Lake, Pigeon Lake, Stoney Lake, Buckhorn Lake and more.
