The Bluegill is native to much of eastern North America (excluding the coastal area north of Virginia and east of the Appalachians), and central North America south from the Great Lakes Region to Gulf Coast states and into northeastern Mexico. The Bluegill inhabits lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams in moderately swift to quiet waters. Bluegill are usually caught near the shorelines. Spawning occurs from late May through mid August in water temperatures of 19.4 to 26.7 degrees Fahrenheit. This fish is found in Rice Lake, Chemong Lake, Pigeon Lake, Stoney Lake, Buckhorn Lake and more.
