The most common member of the sunfish family, the Pumpkinseed is one of the most colourful warm water fishes in North America. Pumpkinseeds can be found in shallow, warm, weedy waters from southern Ontario north to Temagami and west to Sault Ste. Marie. It has a brilliant scarlet spot at the back of the gill cover. Maximum weight: 480 g (1 lb). This fish is found in Rice Lake, Chemong Lake, Pigeon Lake, Stoney Lake, Buckhorn Lake and more.
