Walleye (Pickerel)
COOL WATER SPECIES
Length 25-85 cm (10-33 in)

Ontario is Walleye country. In late spring, the hungry walleye dispersing from spawning areas seldom refuse a jig, especially when tipped with a minnow or a worm. These tasty, golden fish love live bait. By mid-summer, walleye travel to deeper structure, such as sunken islands, main-lake points, drop-offs, shoals, and mid-lake weedflats. Walleye have eyes adapted to low-light feeding. Many are caught at night by trolling crankbaits. Average weight is 3 lbs (1.4 kg). This fish is found in Rice Lake, Chemong Lake, Pigeon Lake, Stoney Lake, Buckhorn Lake and more.
